If your Mfgr. says:
That motor's 7 years old!! Part is no longer available. We lose $$ on service! EPA made me do it! Part's at central warehouse, you'll get it next month. We don't make parts for those. We only do warranty work. Our techs only fix late models. No clue what's wrong! So we'll work time & material.
Mastertech is your source
for quality electronic ignition parts for all makes of US outboard
motors. Some components of the outboard electrical system are
not available from CDI; in this case we have listed the FACTORY or alternate aftermarket part
in its place.
The next-to-last page of this listing has the 1967 thru
1972 battery CD ignition models; the last page is a recap of all models
from 1971 thru 1984. Evinrude Johnson models after 1984 became pretty
complex in that components changed yearly, sometimes from model
to model in the same horsepower range. If you have any questions,
please contact us and we will help you sort it out!
Magnets come off your 90° 35-amp flywheel? Here's a fix!
and here's a word about OMC OIS Ignition (Optical Ignition System)
THE POWERPACK is the portion of the ignition system that stores electrical energy
produced by the stator (or steps up battery voltage and stores it
in older systems) and distributes this power to the ignition coils.
The complexity of this circuitry causes numerous failure modes,
generally the large storage capacitor shorts out.
TROUBLESHOOTING TIP: All
electric start motors have a "stop" or "kill" circuit that carries
all the primary power thru the wiring harness and keyswitch as well
as the emergency stop switch on newer models. Shorting of this high
voltage circuit on magneto energized CD systems many times is the
source of misses, intermittent spark, weak spark and NO spark. An
easy test (and the FIRST test I run) is to disconnect the stop circuit
at the powerpack plug-in or screw terminal. This wire will be black
with a yellow stripe on all modern motors. This will isolate the
harness, etc. and allow you to see if the motor's system is functional.
CAUTION!!The motor will not shut off with the key
during this test. You will have to choke it to shut it down, and
it could start from your turning the flywheel by hand. I do not
recommend you run the motor other than testing with this wire disconnected!
We pay the freight out in USA on all orders
over $100.00. Orders less than this amount will have a shipping
and handling charge of $8.75 added. Some bulky and heavy items
will incur additional charges. You will be notified beforehand
if this is the case. Remember, all orders receive free technical
support from the MasterTech!
